How times have changed. We’re old enough to remember when home bars whiffed of stale cigarettes and cultural tackiness. Not anymore.

Cave-like “rumpus rooms”, luridly coloured shag carpets, sticky Formica countertops, vinyl-padded seats, lava lamps, and full-blown Polynesian bamboo and thatch have mercifully been replaced with walnut, marble, hand-stitched leather and layered lighting.
